Chonta Wood – a Sacred Material from the Amazon Rainforest
Chonta (also known as Bactris gasipaes) is a hard tropical wood sourced from palm trees native to the Amazon region. It is valued for its exceptional durability, natural strength, and deep brown to black color with a velvety sheen.
For the Amazonian tribes, Chonta holds deep spiritual significance – it is considered a protective and energetically powerful wood. Traditionally, it has been used to craft weapons, musical instruments, ceremonial objects, and Rapé pipes such as kuripe and tepi.
Thanks to its density and strength, it is the ideal material for tools used in rituals and meditative practices. Each piece carries the power of the rainforest and the wisdom of the ancestors.
