Palma Negra (Chonta) wood

– a sacred material from the Amazon jungle

Chonta (also known as Bactris gasipaes) is a hard tropical wood that comes from palms growing in the Amazon region. It is valued for its exceptional durability, natural strength, and dark brown to black color with a silky sheen.

For Amazonian tribes, Chonta holds deep spiritual significance — it is considered a protective and energetically powerful wood. Traditionally, it is used to make weapons, musical instruments, ceremonial objects, and kuripe and tepi blowpipes used in the administration of Rapé.
