Jatobá — the grandfather of the forest
Rapé Jatobá is a traditional blend of the Huni Kuin people, made with ash of the mighty Jatobá tree (Hymenaea courbaril). This rare Rapé is honoured by several peoples of the Amazon.
It is one of the stronger blends, with a masculine yet nurturing character – an open heart with firm boundaries. At first it feels fresh and clearing, like Eucalypto, then settles warmly into the heart. In tradition it is associated with heart-opening, grounding, spiritual strength and protection.

The grandfather of the forest
In Amazonian tradition the spirit of the Jatobá tree is seen as the grandfather of the forest – strong, wise and protective. When it is harvested, songs of gratitude are sung and the elders slowly gather its bark and resin. The ash is then mixed with sacred Mapacho and other plants, and the whole process is guided by prayer.

The botanical story
Hymenaea courbaril
Jatobá is a tall, long-lived tree of the legume family found across tropical South America. Its hard wood is known as Brazilian cherry, and its fragrant resin has been treasured for centuries as South American copal.
In Amazonian folk tradition, its bark and resin are valued for clearing a blocked nose and releasing mucus. The Huni Kuin prepare a fine ash from the tree for this Rapé.
