Erythrina Mulungu, a tree that can reach a height of up to 10 meters, is also known in Brazil under the names colorines, chilicote or tzompanquahuitl. In traditional medicine, a decoction of its bark is used to treat depression, stress, hysteria, panic disorders, insomnia and other sleep disorders, as well as liver diseases. Mulungu helps lower blood pressure and stabilize heart rate. As a natural sedative, it also has hepatotonic effects, which means that it strengthens and harmonizes liver function, helps break down excess enzymes, and alleviates sclerosis.

Mulungu contains a number of biologically active substances, the most important of which are the isoflavonoids daidzein and phaseollin, as well as alkaloids. Animal studies have shown its significant anxiolytic and anticonvulsant effects, for which erythrine alkaloids, especially erytravine and erysotrin, are mainly responsible.
