Usage tea
Chuchuhuasi bark (Maytenus krukovii) is one of the Amazon's most treasured sacred plants, traditionally harvested from the Peruvian rainforest for its powerful grounding energy and connection to Earth's healing wisdom. These whole bark pieces carry ancient knowledge from indigenous communities who have worked with this sacred tree for generations.
Our Chuchuhuasi bark comes directly from Peru as unprocessed whole pieces, preserving the plant's natural spirit and potency. With its distinctive woody aroma and earthy, spicy taste, Chuchuhuasi invites you into a ritual of preparation and connection with the Amazon's healing heart.
Infusion and Taste of the Tea
The beverage prepared from Chuchuhuasi has an unexpectedly delicious, sweetish taste. It slightly resembles nuts. The infusion has a rich red color. The decoction from the bark of the Peruvian Chuchuhuasi tree is suitable for all-day sipping.
Origin of the Tea
Indigenous people from the Amazon rainforest know well that they can find everything they need in nature. They named the Chuchuhuasi tree after the ability of its bark to heal joint and back problems. Chuchuhuasi translates to "trembling back." The thirty-meter tall tree (Maytenus laevis), which grows only in the tropical belt of the Amazon, has been at the center of scientists' attention since 1960. Extract from its reddish bark has been the subject of many studies. Their results announced that it has anti-inflammatory and analgesic effects. Twenty years later, Italian researchers confirmed strong antioxidant capabilities that significantly contribute to Chuchuhuasi's preventive anti-cancer effect. The chemical composition of the unique tree bark was also studied by Japanese and American researchers. They discovered alkaloids, catechins, saponins, quinones, organic acids, and other substances in it.
Chuchuhuasi is an enormous tree whose wide crown creates the rainforest canopy. It has large leaves and small white flowers. It grows in the wild nature of Peru, Bolivia, Ecuador, and Colombia, but is also beginning to be cultivated for pharmaceutical purposes. Local people and villagers along the Amazon drink the bark decoction three times a day for a minimum of one week. They use it as a tonic for almost all types of health difficulties.
However, Chuchuhuasi is also drunk as a delicacy. The bark extract in sugarcane rum, which you can buy in the Amazon under the name "Jungle drink," is among popular tourist attractions. You can also get it under the name "Go-juice" - it helps manage long treks in the jungle and relieves strained muscles and joints.
When you search for Chuchuhuasi, ask for Shipibo-conibo, chocho Huashi, Chichasha, or for example Chuchuasi.
