What the animals knew

Copaíba was honoured in Brazil long before European colonisation. A well-known story tells that Indigenous peoples watched wounded animals rub themselves against the bark of the Copaíba tree – and so began to value its golden resin themselves. From that observation grew a knowledge carried through countless generations, which today also finds its place in the tradition of Rapé.

The Copaíba tree belongs to the legume family and grows in the forests of Brazil. It is famous for its golden, aromatic oleoresin, collected from the trunk – often called Copaíba balsam.

In Rapé Copaíba this resin is combined with a traditional plant base, prepared by Antonio according to ancestral knowledge.
