        About the Tea

Wayusa is a brew made from the leaves of Ilex guayusa, a holly plant growing in the understory of the Amazon rainforest. It is a close relative of Yerba Maté's Paraguayan holly — similar in taste and effect, yet smoother, without the bitterness or tannins.

        Traditional Knowledge

For the Kichwa people, Guayusa has been part of the daily morning ritual for over 1,500 years. The infusion was traditionally drunk before hunting or meditation, meant to support focus and connection with the spiritual world.

According to Kichwa tradition, a shaman once prayed for a plant that would help people stay focused while dreaming clearly.

        Grown in Harmony with Nature

Guayusa is grown mainly in the Ecuadorian provinces of Napo and Pastaza, near national parks, on small family farms that follow traditional, chemical-free methods. The leaves grow for 3–4 years before being hand-picked and sun-dried, giving them their distinct aroma.

        Composition & Effects

Wayusa contains natural caffeine — smoother than coffee's — alongside L-theanine, chlorogenic acid, and antioxidants. This combination is traditionally associated with calm, focused energy without the jitters typical of coffee.

        Caffeine natural, smoother than coffee
        L-theanine supports calm focus
Antioxidants high concentration in the leaves
        Taste smooth, earthy, no bitterness

These effects reflect traditional use and are not medical claims.

        How to Prepare

1 1 tablespoon of leaves per cup of water
2 Simmer gently for 10–15 minutes
3 Strain and enjoy hot or cold
4 Optional: honey, lemon, ginger, cinnamon

A larger batch can be stored in the fridge for 2–3 days.
