Canela de Velho — the cleansing blend of the elders
Rapé Canela de Velho is a deeply ritual blend of the Shawãdawa people of Acre, Brazil, prepared in line with the oral tradition passed down by their elders. It combines Mapacho with ash of the Canela de Velho plant (Miconia albicans).
Its character is firm and earthy. In tradition it is associated above all with cleansing and grounding – and the Shawãdawa connect it with vigour and life force, the inner fire that keeps a person steady.

The botanical story
Miconia albicans
Canela de Velho is a shrub native to Brazil. Its Latin name albicans – “whitish” – refers to the pale, silvery undersides of its leaves.
For this blend, the Shawãdawa prepare a fine ash from the plant and combine it with Mapacho according to ancestral knowledge.
